Learning mayhem!

There are days when this is the only apt description of our home ed experience.

Join me as I recall a classic example.

To an outsider looking in, the scene in our kitchen this morning looked liked absolute chaos.

Three children in fancy dress were squealing, running round the kitchen, falling on the floor laughing, while I was tidying down the kitchen after breakfast....

They were playing 'Simon Says', which had initially kickstarted the breakfast quiz. Simon says, 'What is 9-3?', Xander unexpectedly answered first.

You've got to love Simon to help you out when your children are listlessly spreading themselves out across the table with their heads down, not wishing to engage in a curriculum knowledge quiz.

A successful quiz completed, the children were mentally warmed up and ready to go.

We went on to have a revision lesson on identifying materials for the girls and first time round for Xander, who picked it up very quickly.

Simon says find rubber/plastic/glass/metal/tin/cardboard/a material which you can look through etc.

We then took the bedlam upstairs to the living room, and they tidied up their bricks by identifying the colours in Spanish and Japanese.

This session ended with a session of 'Ryans world wonders', learning Japanese with the English translation.

A random life lesson was offered to the girls in the form of observing Daddy change over a graphics card for the computer.

Grannie came for a visit, which is always great fun, they need to learn to share her lap and ears and attention though! I always feel sorry for her, when she's got three very distinct conversations hurtling at her from all corners from the room.

They'll be a grandchild standing on her head, one on Grannie's lap and one rocking on her chair. It's always chaos especially with the metronome ticking in the background.

We finished the day by arriving at the local playground in time for the end of school and it was over ran with children of different ages. The children had a great time mingling, Sophia was easily making friends, Xander was excellent in taking turns.
