100th Day Celebration

Sophia was keen to practice her handwriting and her chosen content today was a mix of spellings and copying out animals from a book. She was absolutely fascinated to learn that I had a few secrets up my sleeve. She spelt out the word ‘was’, I whispered to her to add the secret letter ‘h’ and her face lit up in wonder as she read the word ‘wash’. She started squealing with joy when I told her to add ‘ing’. She now knows how to spell washing! She is really blossoming with her writing and spelling and is so connected and tuned in. Long may it remain! Xander was sat on the floor reading through Kiras current set of sight words pack of flashcards, words like ‘remember’ and ‘children’ did not faze him at all.

Today marked one hundred days since Xander had his Bonemarrow transplant which is a massive milestone. He has survived the most critical part of the transplant and any complications past this stage should be far less dangerous and the risk should now continue to diminish as time passes until his second year past the procedure. The weather was beautiful, so a bbq seemed a fitting celebration. He was plodding quietly around the garden enjoying the sun and being with us all and ate an enormous dinner fresh off the bbq.

Sophia has had a project of keeping a little herb garden alive for the past month and surprisingly she has taken the job very seriously and is successfully keeping them strong and healthy. Yesterday she had an afternoon of learning in the kitchen whilst we were prepping for the bbq. She needed to pick a sufficient amount of oregano, rosemary and thyme and grind them down, in order to then cover the chicken. She picked more rosemary for the roast potatoes and we had a discussion over peeling potatoes, cutting and onions and prepping garlic. Dad showed her how his temperature app helped to tell what the meat needed in order to reach the safe temperature to serve.

All three children had a great day, running round and playing, interacting with their friend next door and her rabbit, updating her on all their exciting news which had occurred since they saw her yesterday. It’s lovely to see their friendship. It was lovely to relax in the sun, in between prepping enough roast potatoes to feed the street. The bbq meat certainly did not last long, we feasted! And as an aside, a normal supermarket pizza cooked in the bbq is elevated to a new level. It was beautiful and took on the smoke from the wood.

I hope you all have had a fruitful/restful weekend and enjoyed joining us for a peek into our weekend of celebration.
